Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Gods movie may be delayed

During its panel at Sakura-Con, which is being held in the United States, American distributor FUNimation, which holds the rights to Dragon Ball in the United States, was asked by a fan about the release of Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Gods (Kami to Kami). He asked if the film's license had already been acquired.

The company responded by saying that Toei Animation has not yet cleared the film, and stipulated that it will take about two years to obtain the rights and release it. FUNimation went even further, stating that it may not even distribute the film in the United States, as 20th Century Fox is expected to receive the acquisition proposal first.

If FUNimation's plans come to fruition, this could delay the film's arrival in Brazil and other Latin American countries, because if the process used is the same as Dragon Ball Kai, the dubbing of Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Gods could take much longer to happen and go through the same problems as the remastered version of the anime (salaries, studio and change of voice actors) if the material used as a base is that of the American distributor.

Now that the film has premiered in Japan, more concrete information about the release of Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Gods in other countries should emerge in the coming months. Until then, fans can only wait.
