Dragon Ball Z: Kid Buu is NOT the strongest form of Majin Buu

Dragon Ball Z saga , centered on Majin Buu , more than two decades ago, fans of the franchise have continued to explore numerous topics of discussion. Among the many debated questions, the question of which of Majin Buu's various manifestations was the most formidable stands out.

The confusion in this debate stems from some conversations between characters throughout the narrative. When Super Buu's forced transformation is suggested, Majin Buu's original form, known as Kid Buu, causes uncertainty. Vegeta, referring to Goku, mentions, "It's hard to say whether he's stronger or weaker now," implying that Kid Buu's power may not have changed significantly. Later, on Planet Kai, Goku muses, "He's now more powerful than ever." The natural interpretation would be that Kid Buu, as the last form of Majin Buu introduced, is the most robust. However, events reveal that Kid Buu did not, in fact, surpass Super Buu's power after absorbing Gohan.

Subsequent events clarify the situation. Upon being resurrected, Goku rushes to aid Gohan in the battle against the newly created Buu, who has absorbed the Super Saiyan Stage 3 forms of Gotenks and Piccolo. However, Elder Kaio-shin interrupts Goku, stating that, even with his current abilities, Goku no longer poses a significant threat to Buu. At that point, the only viable strategy for victory would be to fuse with Gohan, thus combining their powers.

Goku agrees to the proposal, unsuccessfully attempting to fuse with Gohan, who is promptly absorbed. Upon encountering a recovered Vegeta, the now more powerful Super Buu quickly overpowers them. Faced with the imminent threat, Goku and Vegeta resolve to overcome their differences and opt for a permanent fusion using the "Potara Earrings," creating Vegito. Assessing Super Buu's true power (with Gohan absorbed) becomes challenging, as he lost his only significant fight. However, his survival and nearly successful attempt to absorb Vegito speak volumes about his formidability.

Let's now rewind time to Kid Buu's appearance. With the possible exception of Kibito-shin, the heroes lack a clear understanding of Kid Buu's power compared to his previous forms. However, the fact that Goku faced Kid Buu head-on for a significant period using only Super Saiyan Stage 3, much like he fought Majin Buu's first form, may offer some insight. While this doesn't mean that the first form and Kid Buu shared the same power level, Kid Buu's easy victory over Majin Buu and Vegeta makes his fight with Goku all the more intriguing.

Two important reasons:

Kid Buu

The misconception that Kid Buu is more powerful than Super Buu stems from two fundamental reasons. First, he's considered the ultimate villain, following the typical progression of antagonist forms in the Dragon Ball series (such as Frieza and Cell), where each new phase represents an increase in power. While it's logical to assume that Majin Buu's final form is the most powerful, Dragon Ball Z surprisingly defies this expectation, featuring a final battle with Goku without the need for fusion.

The second reason lies in Kid Buu's destruction of planet Earth, along with other planets. However, it's crucial to remember that Super Buu was about to perform the same feat until Goku and Vegeta fused. During the fight against Vegito, Super Buu could have repeated this act of destruction, but the fusion gave Vegito enough power to resist and counterattack. In short, if Goku and Vegeta hadn't fused, Super Buu would have, at that moment, annihilated Earth in the same manner as Kid Buu.

Had Goku and Vegeta opted for another fusion for the final confrontation, they would undoubtedly have completely overpowered Kid Buu. Unfortunately, however, the Saiyans' characteristic pride interfered with this possibility. Thus, the only solution was to enlist the help of all lifeforms on Earth to eliminate Kid Buu, using the powerful Spirit Bomb.

In short, the predictability stemming from Kid Buu's sheer evil and lack of personality makes him the most easily understood form of the villain. However, the indisputable fact is that Goku and Vegeta resorted to fusion to face Super Buu, especially after his absorption of Gohan. This context unequivocally establishes Kid Buu as the most powerful form of Majin Buu revealed in Dragon Ball Z.
