Fortnite players on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S can now pre-download updates before their official release . This new feature, discovered by dataminers and confirmed by Epic Games, allows users to start downloading even before the servers go down for maintenance.

This change should reduce the waiting time to log in after updates are released. It's also a benefit for those with slow connections, avoiding long download times.

New feature arrives with the new season

The news coincides with the launch of Chapter 6, Season 2 of Fortnite , which brought several collaborations. Among the highlights is a crossover with Cowboy Bebop, a classic anime from the 1990s. Additionally, the game also received an unusual promotional campaign, featuring a fake documentary about a rivalry between the character Big Dill and singer T-Pain.

Another major addition was the arrival of Mortal Kombat, with Sub-Zero available in the battle pass . The new season promises constant updates, making pre-downloading even more useful for players.

How to Enable Pre-Download on PS5 and Xbox

PS5 and Xbox Series X/S users can activate the feature by following simple steps.

On PlayStation 5:

  1. Go to Settings .
  2. Go to Saved Data and Game/App Settings .
  3. Select Automatic Updates .
  4. Auto-Download and options in Rest Mode .

On Xbox Series X/S:

  1. Go to My Games & Apps .
  2. Go to Manage .
  3. Automatic Updates option .

This means the system downloads the necessary files even before the game goes offline for maintenance .

What about players on other platforms?

While the feature is a step forward for next-gen consoles, there's still no word on when or if Epic Games will roll it out to other platforms.

Nintendo Switch players , for example, have expressed frustration with slow downloads, especially since they rely on wireless connections.

The community is still awaiting a response from the developer regarding the expanded functionality. In the meantime, PS5 and Xbox Series X/S can now take advantage of the new feature for a smoother, lag-free gaming experience.
