The official website for the anime Free! confirmed that voice actor Tatsuhisa Suzuki will continue voicing the character Makoto Tachibana . Suzuki is also the lead singer of the band OLDCODEX , who has contributed several theme songs to the franchise.
Suzuki's agency announced on August 4 that he would be taking a hiatus from activities in the entertainment industry due to his poor health. Suzuki's production committee, production team and agency held numerous deliberations regarding the best options for all fans and the franchise itself.
The production committee added that Makoto Tachibana has been a crucial character for the franchise since its planning stages nine years ago. Finally, the committee concluded by asking fans for their continued support.
