Polish developer 11 bit Studios announced that Frostpunk 2 has surpassed 500,000 copies sold since its release in September 2024. The title, eagerly awaited by fans since its reveal, recouped its development costs in the first few days, with 350,000 units sold shortly after launch.

The impressive numbers include a relevant fact: 48.7% of buyers opted for the Deluxe Edition, which offers exclusive content such as a digital artbook, soundtrack, in-game items, and three future DLCs. Furthermore, those who purchased this version had early access to the game, playing three days before the release of the Standard Edition.

Almost half of the sales were of the Deluxe Edition

The choice of the Deluxe Edition reflects the appeal of its robust package. The extra items, combined with early access, were decisive factors for many players. This version maintained a stable sales rate, even after the official release of the title.

China led among countries with the highest number of players, accounting for almost a quarter of sales, followed by the United States and Germany. Furthermore, the inclusion of Frostpunk 2 in the Game Pass catalog, Microsoft's subscription service, also contributed to increasing the company's revenue stream.

Record revenue driven by Frostpunk 2

The developer reported revenues of US$26.1 million in the first nine months of 2024, a 211% increase compared to the same period of the previous year. This represents the best financial performance in 11 bit Studios' history.

Przemysław Marszał, chairman of the company's board, highlighted that Frostpunk 2's solid foundation will allow for a prolonged life cycle for the game. Future updates, expansions, and DLCs are planned, along with marketing strategies to maintain player engagement.

In addition to the success of Frostpunk 2, the developer benefited from the continued performance of the first Frostpunk, which still generates revenue through paid DLCs and related products such as the soundtrack and board game.

Marszał also revealed that the lessons learned from the launch of Frostpunk 2 will serve as the basis for the launch of The Alters, scheduled for 2025. Thus, the company will reinforce its attention to community feedback to ensure deliveries aligned with audience expectations.
