The new anime is based on the manga by Natsuki Takaya, with animation by TMS Entertainment, direction by Yoshihide Ibata, story by Taku Kishimoto, and character design by Yuu Shindou.
But her opinions always clashed with those of director Akitaro Daichi , and Studio Deen chose to reject Takaya's opinions, and in retaliation she blocked all attempts at a second season or remake.
The story revolves around a family tragedy turning her life upside down. Tohru Honda takes matters into her own hands and moves… into a tent! Unfortunately for her, she sets up her new home on private land belonging to the mysterious Sohma clan, and it doesn't take long for the owners to discover her secret. But, as Tohru quickly discovers when the family offers to take her in, the Sohmas have a secret of their own – when touched by the opposite sex, they transform into the animals of the Chinese zodiac!
Natsuki Takaya began publishing a sequel, Fruits Basket Another , in September 2015 and plans to end the manga in the next chapter.
Fruits Basket was serialized in Hana to Yume from 1998 to 2006, and in 2001 it received an anime series adaptation.
