Nippon Ichi Software announced the release of Fuuraiki 5, the next chapter in the adventure and exploration franchise. The game will be available on July 31, 2025, for PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, and PC (via Steam). In Japan, the standard version will cost 7,920 yen (approximately US$ 305).

This time, the journey takes place in Mie, a Japanese prefecture famous for its history, nature, and cuisine. The player takes on the role of a budding reporter traveling the region by motorcycle, collecting information for a travel writing contest. Over four virtual weeks, he visits tourist attractions, interacts with characters, and writes articles, simulating the routine of a travel journalist.

In addition to land-based exploration, the game features a new feature: Ship Mode, which allows you to travel to regional islands by sea. With graphics that use real-life images of the surrounding landscapes, Fuuraiki 5 aims to provide a highly immersive experience for those who want to explore Japan without leaving home.

Realistic travel and new exploration mechanics

One of Fuuraiki 5's greatest strengths is its visual fidelity. The game uses real 360-degree footage, allowing players to explore Mie's roads as if they were riding a real motorcycle. During the journey, players can freely rotate the camera and observe details of the landscape.

Gameplay has also been enhanced with Curve Expression, a system that makes turns smoother and more natural, improving motorcycle control. The game also includes a mini-map, facilitating navigation and preventing players from getting lost.

Another new feature is naval mode, which expands exploration possibilities. Players can now use boats to access remote locations, such as Dolphin Island, where they can interact with marine animals and learn more about the local fauna.

Gastronomy, tourism and romance in the same itinerary

Exploring Mie isn't just about the scenery. Local cuisine also features prominently in the game, allowing players to sample traditional dishes like Ise Udon and Tonteki, presented in rich detail to enhance the experience's realism.

The variety of places to visit is also impressive. With over 100 attractions available, the game offers everything from well-known attractions like Nagashima Spa Land, an amusement park famous for its roller coasters, to lesser-known locations like Maruyama Senmaida, one of Japan's most beautiful terraced plantations. The game encourages repeat visits, revealing changing landscapes and new stories as the player progresses.

Fuuraiki 5 also introduces a romance element. Three female characters accompany the journey, each with their own story. The player can develop a relationship with them or focus entirely on their journalism career, aiming for the best ranking in the MieCom competition.

Original classic arrives on PC in March

Before the arrival of Fuuraiki 5, Nippon Ichi Software will also bring the first game in the franchise to PC. Fuuraiki (1996) will be released via Steam on March 27, 2025, giving fans the chance to revisit the title that launched the series. Originally released for PlayStation 1, the game established the exploration and narrative format that remains to this day.

For those who already want to learn more about PC gameplay, a demonstration video has been released, showing how the experience adapts to the platform.

Special editions for collectors

In addition to the standard edition, Fuuraiki 5 will have limited editions for fans of the franchise. The First-Run Limited Edition, priced at 13,200 yen, will include a special box set, a soundtrack CD, and an art book. The Nippon1.jp Shop Limited Edition, priced at 16,500 yen, will include even more exclusive items, such as a pass case and a collectible sticker.

With improved graphics, new features, and a PC expansion, Fuuraiki 5 promises to be the most complete experience in the series yet. For those passionate about travel, Japanese culture, and immersive simulations, this game is a must-play.
