What is the story of the anime Gachiakuta?
Living in the poor neighborhoods of a rich society, there is a population of “tribesmen”, descendants of criminals exiled from society. Among the inhabitants of the tribes is a young man named Rudo, who detests the wastefulness of the upper class. However, they often dispose of anything considered trash, including criminals, in a huge dumping site beneath the city known as “The Abyss.” His adoptive father, Regto, informed Rudo that they threw his biological father into the Abyss for a crime before his birth. One day, after rummaging through a dump site, Rudo returns home and finds Regto dead. Arrested at the scene of the crime, Rudo is immediately accused of murder despite his innocence due to his status as a tribesman. Unable to escape their fate, the people swear revenge on Rudo and throw him into the Abyss.
Finally, serialization of Gachiakuta began in Kodansha's Weekly Shōnen Magazine in February 2022. In March 2024, the series collected the individual chapters into 10 tankōbon volumes. Furthermore, Kodansha USA announced that it has licensed the series for publication in English in 2023.
