Netmarble has confirmed that the RPG Game of Thrones: Kingsroad will officially launch on May 21st for PC and mobile devices. The final version of the game will be available for free on stores such as Steam, Epic Games Store, Microsoft Store, Google Play, and the App Store.
The title has been in Early Access since March, during which time it has received adjustments based on community feedback. The main change involves field bosses, which now feature matchmaking for up to 12 simultaneous players.
Changes to the progression system increase the pace of gameplay
One of the most common criticisms during testing was the scarcity of RP, a resource that limits players' actions within the game. Project director Hyunil Jang stated that the company is analyzing ways to increase the daily RP supply. Additionally, new content that doesn't require RP will be included to maintain Game of Thrones: Kingsroad player engagement.
Exploration missions and cooperative activities will remain available even after RP ends. According to Jang, the goal is to ensure the gameplay experience isn't abruptly interrupted. Currently, it's still possible to explore scenarios or face enemies without RP, but the team acknowledges that the system needs adjustments.
Another change was the frequency with which bosses appear on the map. Previously, they appeared so regularly that players couldn't organize themselves into groups. Now, they'll be rarer, which makes team formation easier and reinforces the collaborative aspect of the gameplay.
Stormlands will be a new setting and will bring a darker atmosphere
The official launch will also introduce a new region: Stormlands. Known for its importance in the Game of Thrones series but little explored in the games, the area arrives with dense settings and darker themes. Issues related to religion and power will be central to the narratives presented in this new content.
The setting reflects the medieval style that made George R.R. Martin's universe a worldwide success. The team promises to bring complex narrative elements that connect directly to the franchise's canon. With this expansion, the game gains depth and expands the map of Westeros available for exploration.
