The official website for the Gatchaman Crowds has added seven more characters to the cast. The anime's story is set in Japan in early summer 2015. 180,000 people live in Tachikawa City, the "second capital" of the Tokyo area. Among them are "Gatchaman"—warriors who fight in special reinforced suits powered by "NOTE," the manifestation of special spiritual powers in living beings. A council has observed a group of individuals with latent powers to protect Earth from alien criminals. In recent years, the municipality has assigned Gatchaman warriors to deal with the mysterious entity known as "mess."

OD (Date of Birth: June 8 | Age: Unknown | Height: 190 cm)
Tachikawa's decision-maker, "CAGE," with the catchphrase "You're overreacting!" He calls his Gatchaman a sad Gatchaman who can't transform, and so he doesn't go on normal missions. With the existence of his guardian for the team, people who can't open their hearts to others would open them to him. He owns a cat named Altair (also known as Al).
Utsu-tsu (Birthday: Unknown | Age: 15 (assumed) | Height: 143 cm)
A first-year student attending Tachikawa Private Academy for the Gifted. She volunteers to care for the flowers at the Tachikawa City International Garden of Verdura. She doesn't have a very positive self-image and is wary of getting too close. The only one who can speak normally is OD. Pretty much the only thing she says to the other members is "I'll be sad...", which is a pun on her name.
Paiman (Birthday: Unknown | Age: Unknown | Height: 33 cm)
An alien Gatchaman sent by JJ to Earth, and the "CAGE" member who has been on the team the longest (a few hundred years). He has JJ's complete trust, and is thus placed as the team leader to place top priority on JJ's prediction of the future. He also gives the team orders.
JJ Robinson,
a member of the board of directors and the guardian of Earth, is a man who has watched over the lives of people born in the galaxy for many years. He bestowed the power of Gatchaman on Earthlings who possessed the right characteristics and informed them of his prediction of an existence that will be impossible to repel with the powers of science.
Rui Ninomiya (Date of Birth: April 25 | Age: 18 | Height: 168 cm)
A young woman who lives upstairs in the upscale mansion of the Glorious Toyosu Tower building in Koto Ward, Tokyo. Her greatest asset is her intellectual prowess; she is trilingual, able to speak English, Japanese, and Chinese. After educating herself using educational websites and learning to write code from hackers around the world, she developed the social networking services "GALAX" and "President X." She believes that current Japan is extremely boring and is doing many things to speed up and update the world's clocks.
Berg Katze (Birthday: Unknown | Age: Unknown | Height: 215 cm)
A mysterious person who claims to be an alien. Her goals and the reasons behind her actions are a mystery.
The charismatic figure, extremely famous within the GALAX social networking service.
Kenji Nakamura (Mononoke, Tsuritama) will be directing off scripts by Toshiya Ono (Suite Precure, Tsuritama) at Tatsunoko Productions. Illustrator Kinoko did the original character designs for the characters, while Koji Nakakita (Wandaba Style, Juso Kiko Dancouga Nova) did the mecha designs.
The first Gatchaman anime premiered in October 1972 and achieved an average audience share of 21%. It was only planned for two quarters of a year, but was extended for another two full years and 105 episodes. Since then, it has spawned anime films, as well as later television and video series. The Gatchaman anime series have been adapted, with varying degrees of fidelity, into English under the titles Battle of the Planets, G-Force, and Eagle Riders.
