Origin of the work
The author Takumi Yanai began writing the story of GATE: Jieitai Kano Chi nite, Kaku Tatakaeri between 2006 and 2009 on the Arcadia website. In 2010, the work was published by AlphaPolis , and since then it has surpassed 7.3 million copies in circulation , including digital editions (data from June 2024).
In addition to the original novel, the title received a manga adaptation illustrated by Satoru Sao in 2011 and three spin-offs in 2015. The anime premiered in 2015, with the second part airing in 2016. In North America, the series was licensed by Sentai Filmworks .
In 2017, a new light novel series titled Jieitai Kano Umi nite, Kaku Tatakaeri began publication and is still ongoing.
