The Operation Downpour Simulation event is available in Genshin Impact from May 19 to June 3, 2025. Set in the Fontaine region, the event simulates a board game war and requires strategic decisions to win battles. The mechanics require the player to defeat enemies and opposing structures, carefully choosing which units to deploy in each scenario.

There are 11 progressive challenges in total, with the first four unlocked at the beginning. To participate, players must complete a short mission with the same name as the event, which introduces its dynamics. In each phase, the player can deploy up to five units, either melee or ranged, adapting to the needs of the battlefield.
First challenges require a simple and quick strategy
The first challenge, called Frontline Formation, involves combat against Cryo Whopperflowers. Additionally, the player must position two groups of Hilichurl Fighters and two of Electro Samachurls, distributing them on both sides of the field. This basic formation ensures quick elimination of enemies, without requiring swaps or repositioning.
Then, in the second stage, Thrust and Volley Combined, the resistance increases. The opponents are two Hydro Slimes and two Treasure Hoarder Pyro Potioneers. To overcome them, the recommended strategy involves using two Ruin Guards to clear the way and then unleashing the Hilichurl Grenadiers. This effectively holds off the enemy advance.
Soon after, the third challenge, Siege Strategies, presents even tougher enemies, such as Frostarm Lawachurls and more Pyro Potioneers. Therefore, the recommendation is to position three Cryo Specters in the lower base, followed by two Electro Lawachurls. After the first combat is won, the Ruin Guards should be released to complete the offensive.
Later challenges require greater coordination of units
In Studies in Momentum, the main enemy is the Mek: Ousia, accompanied by Cryo Whopperflowers. The ideal formation starts with two Eroding Avatars of Lava and a group of Electro Cicins at base. After defeating the first Whopperflower, two groups of Hilichurl Fighters enter the scene. The second group of Electro Cicins should be introduced last, completing the offensive.
Each phase requires careful attention to the units' behavior, which follow distinct attack patterns. Melee characters advance in a straight line, destroying obstacles along the way. However, snipers remain stationary until their target is eliminated, requiring more calculated positioning.
As in a board strategy game, every decision influences the outcome of the match. The combination of brute force and range determines success in confrontations. The time-limited event offers a dynamic experience for players seeking challenges beyond the game's traditional combat.
Event brings a different approach and reinforces variety in the game
Operation Downpour Simulation's approach departs from the conventional battles of Genshin Impact . By adopting a wargame structure (a board game war simulation), the event emphasizes the importance of tactical reasoning and play planning. Each phase invites players to think before acting, offering different ways to achieve victory.
Besides being fun, the event also provides learning opportunities. Less experienced players have the opportunity to better understand attacking and defensive functions. For veterans, the challenge lies in finding the most effective formations and minimizing response time.
Scheduled to end on June 3rd, the event is part of the 5.6 update content. Until then, participants will be able to explore all available challenges, accumulating rewards and honing their strategic vision within the Teyvat universe.
