According to a publication by the company Rachel Bullock Casting, the live-action Ghost in the Shell that will have Scarlett Johansson as the protagonist Motoko Kusanagi has won a filming location, starting in January 2016 at Stone Street Studios in Wellington New Zealand.
DreamWorks and Paramount are financing and producing the film. Paramount will handle the international release, and DreamWorks will handle the release alongside Disney. The film is scheduled for release on March 31, 2017.
Scarlett Johansson (The Avengers, Lucy) has signed on to star in this adaptation of Masamune Shirow's manga.
