According to a publication from the company Rachel Bullock Casting, the live-action Ghost in the Shell, which will have Scarlett Johansson as the protagonist Motoko Kusanagi, has been filmed, starting in January 2016 at Stone Street Studios in Wellington New Zealand.
Dreamworks and Paramount are financing and producing the film. Paramount will handle the film's international release and Dreamworks will handle its release alongside Disney. The film is scheduled to release on March 31, 2017.
Scarlett Johansson (The Avengers, Lucy) has signed on to star in this adaptation of Masamune Shirow's manga.
