Sucker Punch completed development of Ghost of Yōtei, and the game subsequently received an R rating in Taiwan. This registration confirms that the submitted version already contains all the required elements. Hours later, Sony officially announced the release date: the title arrives on PlayStation 5 on October 2nd.
The international rating, required before release, confirms the presence of violence, bad language, and the use of alcohol and tobacco. The content follows the mature style of Ghost of Tsushima, the predecessor that established the franchise in the samurai universe.
Game expands the map and bets on new characters
The new protagonist, Atsu, survived a massacre and sets out to seek revenge. Wielding a symbolic katana, she faces the Yōtei Six, a group of villains with distinct abilities. The player can decide the order of each confrontation, shaping the narrative based on their choices.
The map is 30% larger than Tsushima and features new biomes, minigames, and side activities. The expanded open world reinforces the game's commitment to total immersion. Furthermore, the title promises a more dynamic experience, with the freedom to explore and progress through the story at your own pace.
The antagonists include Snake, Oni, Kitsune, Spider, Dragon, and Lord Saito. Each offers specific challenges, requiring varied strategies. The trailer revealed some of these combats and the setting, which accurately blends historical and fictional elements.
Sony opens pre-orders in May with three editions available
Pre-orders will begin on May 2nd, with digital, physical, and collector's editions available. The basic version will only include the game. The Deluxe Edition includes bonus items like armor and an exclusive horse. The Collector's Edition will include a figurine, mask, and coin purse.
Sony hasn't yet released official pricing, but the standard edition is expected to cost around R$350 in Brazil. The collector's pack, one of the brand's most comprehensive, is aimed at those who value physical items and exclusive content.
The PlayStation Store now allows you to add the game to your wishlist. Community expectations are high, and Sony is investing in a broad marketing campaign to reach both loyal players and new audiences.
Release seeks space among other big titles of the year
The official release date was calculated. In 2025, Sony already has Death Stranding 2 scheduled for June and Marathon for September. Choosing October aims to avoid conflicts with other releases and maintain focus on the new PS5 exclusive.
The proximity of GTA 6's release, scheduled for the end of the year, also influenced the schedule. Sony's strategy is to spread its major titles throughout the months, expanding the brand's presence and optimizing each game's commercial performance.
With development wrapped and an official release date set, Ghost of Yōtei now tops the list of most anticipated releases of the second half of the year. The bet is on quality, fan loyalty, and the power of the PS5 to sustain another success for the platform.
