According to author Hideaki Sorachi, Gintama is already heading towards its final arc starting with the 63rd volume. Sorachi also says it could end in 2016 or early 2017.

Gintama was released in 2004 and is currently one of the most popular manga series in Japan. An anime adaptation was released in 2006, but went on hiatus several times until 2013. The latest season of Gintama premiered in April 2015.

The Gintama franchise has also spawned several films and OVAs.
