GoW: Ascension reportedly cost $50 million to make

Hello, my name is Bruna and I'm passionate about the world of anime and manga. I hope to contribute to the AnimeNew website.

If the sales forecast for God of War: Ascension made by a market analyst wasn't enough to make us think the franchise might undergo a revamp, things got much worse after an interview given by Whitney Wade, lead producer of the latest adventure of the Ghost of Sparta. During the conversation, he revealed that the title cost US$50 million to produce, a value that is still far from what is estimated to be spent to develop a Grand Theft Auto, but that would be on the same level as a Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, however, without the slightest indication that it will perform as well commercially as the Activision FPS. Wade did not clarify whether this amount includes advertising, but as in some cases marketing ends up consuming much more money than the development itself, we can imagine that the financial hole may have been much larger. Given this scenario, fans, forgive me, but in the end, maybe it's good that Kratos is going through difficulties. If the folks at Santa Monica Studio are smart, they can use this situation to take a break from the franchise and dedicate themselves to other creations. That way, in a few years, when new ideas emerge and we've had time to build anticipation for a new game, they can return with a God of War that truly brings innovation and not just a button-mashing fest.
