Take-Two Interactive, the company behind one of the most popular gaming franchises, has yet to confirm the release of Grand Theft Auto VI (GTA 6) for PC. For now, the game is only planned for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S, with a planned release in 2025. Strauss Zelnick, CEO of the company, highlighted the growing importance of the PC market, but avoided detailing plans for that platform.

In an interview with IGN, Zelnick explained that Take-Two doesn't follow a uniform strategy for simultaneous releases across all platforms. He cited Civilization 7, which will be released for consoles and PC at the same time, but pointed out that Rockstar Games, the developer of GTA, adopts a different approach. Historically, the company's releases begin on consoles and only later reach other platforms.

The PC market is growing, but consoles are the priority in GTA 6
According to Zelnick, multiplatform PC game sales account for up to 40% of total revenue for certain titles. He says this share has been growing in recent years, reinforcing the PC's role as a key player in the gaming industry. Despite this, Take-Two still prioritizes consoles for major releases.
This choice is backed by a history of impactful console releases. Zelnick believes that GTA 6, as well as other highly anticipated titles, will be a driver of hardware sales in 2025. He also highlighted that large-scale games often stimulate the purchase of new consoles, benefiting the entire industry.
The strategy follows the Rockstar Games pattern
The decision to initially release GTA 6 for consoles is nothing new for fans of the franchise. In 2013, Grand Theft Auto V was first released for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. Only two years later, in April 2015, did the PC version arrive on the market.
Another factor that may influence the approach for the PC version is the history of conflicts between Rockstar and the modding . Recently, the company shut down a project that recreated Liberty City from GTA 4 within GTA 5, reinforcing its strict policy on unauthorized modifications.
Currently, Take-Two remains focused on releasing GTA 6 for consoles, and there's no indication of when—or if—a PC version will be announced. However, fan anticipation remains high, especially after a decade of waiting since the last main title in the series.
