GTA 6 was refused three times before the final version

GTA 6 is among the most anticipated games of the decade, but new reports suggest that their development has undergone creative turmoil. An unofficial source states that Rockstar Games controller has refused three different versions of the plot.

The successive rejections would have contributed to the departure of Dan Houser, one of the studio founders and central figure in the creation of the franchise. The allegations come from a medium -signed publication by Fravilys, the report reveals curious details about the GTA 6 creation process and the challenges faced by the creative team over the years.

First proposal: a police thriller with three protagonists

According to the source, the first version of the script was developed by the end of 2016. The plot revolved around three main characters, in a research story with a suspense climate. However, the company rejected the proposal for considering it too dark and outside its commercial standards, despite the initial interest of the team.

This refusal marked the beginning of a long and troubled process, where GTA 6 narrative underwent radical reformulations until it finds an acceptable format for Take-Two executives.

Second attempt: Police versus criminal à la Trevor

With the first idea discarded, the team bet on a new approach, this time focused on two central characters. The story put a police officer and a subordinate from a drug cartel, described as insane as Trevor, from GTA V.

The team worked in this second project for about 18 months, until Take-Two decided to cancel it. Thus, although it did not officially explain the reasons, sources speculate that the tone of the narrative and its commercial potential weighed again in the decision.

Third Screenplay: Former African American Solder and Organized Crime

The third plot attempt maintained the structure of two protagonists. However, the policeman was replaced by a former African-American military-seaside from prison. The narrative exploited its attempt at reintegration to society and the consequent immersion in the underworld of crime.

This version was filed in March 2019. Shortly thereafter, Dan Houser temporarily walked away from Rockstar and later left his position as creative vice president, ending a cycle of decades ahead of the franchise.

Impact on the development schedule

This information explains why Rockstar has taken so many years to finish GTA 6 if they are true. The constant exchange of creative directions may have delayed production and required large investments in team restructuring and scope.

Although there is still no official confirmation, the information released raise relevant questions about the scenes of the industry. In addition, the relationship between creators and controlling companies, such as Take-Two, seems to have strongly influenced the direction of history and the continuity of key figures in the studio.

Some interpret Dan Houser's departure as a clear sign of tension between his creative vision and corporate demands. GTA 6, therefore, can carry not only the weight of being Rockstar's next major release, but also of representing a deep change in the way the studio builds its stories.
