Take-Two Interactive, the developer of one of gaming's most popular franchises, has yet to confirm the release of Grand Theft Auto VI (GTA 6) for PC. For now, the game is only scheduled for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S, with a release planned for 2025. Strauss Zelnick, the company's CEO, highlighted the growing importance of the PC market but avoided detailing plans for that platform.

In an interview with IGN, Zelnick explained that Take-Two doesn't follow a uniform strategy for simultaneous releases across all platforms. He mentioned Civilization 7, which will hit consoles and PCs simultaneously, but noted that Rockstar Games, the developer of GTA, takes a different approach. Historically, the company's releases begin on consoles and only later reach other platforms.
PC market grows, but consoles are a priority in GTA 6
According to Zelnick, multiplatform PC game sales represent up to 40% of total revenue for certain titles. This share, he says, has been growing in recent years, reinforcing the PC's role as a key player in the gaming industry. Despite this, Take-Two still prioritizes consoles for major releases.
This choice is supported by a history of the impact of console releases. Zelnick believes that GTA 6, as well as other highly anticipated titles, will be a driver of hardware sales in 2025. He also noted that major games often stimulate the purchase of new consoles, benefiting the entire industry.
Strategy follows Rockstar Games standard
The decision to release GTA 6 initially on consoles isn't news to fans of the franchise. In 2013, Grand Theft Auto V was first released for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. Only two years later, in April 2015, did the PC version hit the market.
Another factor that may influence the PC approach is the history of conflict between Rockstar and the modding . The company recently shut down a project that recreated GTA 4's Liberty City within GTA 5, reinforcing its strict policy on unauthorized modifications.
So far, Take-Two remains focused on releasing GTA 6 on consoles, and there's no indication of when—or if—a PC version will be announced. Fan anticipation, however, remains high, especially after a decade-long wait since the last mainline title in the series.
