Tomino has recently been invited to give a special lecture on July 8th in Japan during the " Space Business Conference 2025 ," organized by the Spacetide Foundation. The panel will offer a thought-provoking reflection: is it possible to build an "ideal space society," or will humanity repeat the mistakes of the Earth Federation and the Principality of Zeon?
Reflections on science fiction and reality
As announced by the organization, Tomino will discuss how to advance toward space without compromising Earth's survival. He will also reflect on how close we are to the futuristic vision he presented nearly fifty years ago. Inevitably, the panel will also address the current rapidly evolving commercialization of space.
According to the statement, this will be a unique opportunity to connect science fiction with current reality. After all, Gundam remains one of Japan's greatest science fiction works, bringing warnings and hope about humanity's future in space.
Spacetide's Role in the New Space Race
Since 2015, Spacetide has hosted pioneering conferences in Japan, even before the term "commercial space" became popular in the country. Surprisingly, these initiatives have boosted the private space industry, which now generates billions of dollars in investment globally.
However, while the advances are remarkable, Spacetide asserts that space exploration has not yet unlocked its full potential. Therefore, this year's event, which marks the conference's 10th anniversary, carries the motto: "The Next Decade: Unlocking Space for All Humanity."
The return of the Gundam anime in 2025
