Mobile Suit Gundam franchise gains a new and ambitious chapter with the launch of the manga Mobile Suit Gundam EIGHT (機動戦士ガンダムエイト) , written by Hajime Kamoshida (author of Sakurasou no Pet na Kanojo and Rascal Does Not Dream of Bunny Girl Senpai ) and illustrated by Hideaki Takagi . The first volume arrived in Japanese bookstores this Wednesday, October 23 , by KADOKAWA .
Created to celebrate the 24th anniversary of Monthly Gundam Ace magazine , the manga marks the beginning of a completely original story within the Gundam universe. The plot is set in the year CE 2030 , following Naomi Subaru , a young man facing a desperate war on Earth. The narrative rewinds four years to reveal Naomi's past aboard the space exploration vessel Atlantis , where genetically modified young people—known as the "Eighth ," the eighth evolution of humanity—are trained as pilots for a dangerous mission in deep space.
The launch also gained attention in Shibuya , where a huge poster of the manga occupied the "Big 8B" advertising space for the Tokyu Den-en-toshi line. Additionally, KADOKAWA launched an official website and a promotional video on YouTube to promote the work.
