Haikyuu!!: New Volleyball movie has a smashing opening in Japan

The new volleyball movie ' Haikyuu!! Battle at the Garbage Dump ' has had its opening numbers revealed in Japanese cinemas. According to sources, the film had a staggering initial gross of approximately 890 million yen (over 5.92 million dollars).

Therefore, this achievement is unique, placing this new volleyball movie in fourth position in the ranking of first-day box office earnings in the entire history of cinema in Japan .

However, it's worth noting that the film is the first of the two-part cinematic project, "Haikyuu! Final," which will apparently adapt the remaining original content of the manga, which comprises about 110 chapters.

Susumu Mitsunaka (Haikyuu!!, Campione!, Cuticle Tantei Inaba) is responsible for directing, writing, and supervising the scripts at Production IG , with assistance from Mariko Ishikawa (Ousama Ranking, Ballroom e Youkoso).

The film initially premiered this Friday, February 16th, in major cinemas across Japan.

Synopsis:

The story follows the journey of Shoyo Hinata, a young man who falls in love with volleyball after watching a thrilling national championship match on television. He begins training and forms a team in his final year of middle school, but suffers a painful defeat at the hands of the favorites led by Tobio Kageyama.

Finally, Haruichi Furudate launched the manga in 2011 and concluded the series in July 2020. Furthermore, Shueisha published the 45th and final volume of the manga in November 2020.
