Hikuidori Synopsis:

He was known as the Flame-Eating Bird—the samurai who faced the great fire. Once upon a time, Matsunaga Gengo was recognized as Edo's finest firefighting samurai, nicknamed "Kuidori" (the flame-eating bird). However, for personal reasons, he had abandoned his life as a firefighter. Everything changed when he received an unexpected offer to serve in Shonai's domain. Shonai's fire brigade was in shambles: underfunded, lacking talented members, and despised by everyone around him. With the support of his wife, Miyuki , Gengo decided to take on the challenge of rebuilding the team as its leader.

The novel Ushūboro Tobigumi , begun by Imamura in 2017, has 12 volumes published by Shodensha, in addition to a spin-off collection released in 2022. Therefore, the work won an award at the 6th Yoshikawa Eiji Bunko Award in 2021, solidifying the author's talent. Imamura is known for Ikusagami (Last Samurai Standing), which received a manga adaptation in 2022 and will have a live-action series on Netflix in November 2025.
