During the most recent issue of Monthly Afternoon in Japan, the final chapter of the manga “ Houseki no Kuni ” ( Land of the Lustrous ), written and illustrated by Haruko Ichikawa , was announced to have concluded after 12 years of publication.

Therefore, since its debut in the magazine's pages, "Houseki no Kuni" has gained a wide audience both in Japan and abroad, winning numerous followers for its originality and impressive art.
The work has undergone several suspensions since the publication of Chapter 95 in December 2020. After a prolonged hiatus, it resumed publication with Chapter 96 in June 2022, only to be suspended again at different times over several months. Rumors suggested that the continuous pauses in the work were due to the author's interest in playing PlayStation 5. Interestingly, in Chapter 95, the same chapter in which the suspensions began, Ichikawa revealed in a footnote that she had acquired her new console.
Despite all these delays, the author's comment in this final chapter suggests that she managed to finish the manga's story exactly as she had in mind: “This is the last chapter of 'Houseki no Kuni'. Thank you so much for these 12 years. It was interesting to draw it and I'm happy to have managed to finish it on time.”.

Synopsis:
“Land of the Lustrous” takes place in the distant future, where Earth has been struck six times by meteorites, devastating it in the process. All remaining land has been reduced to a single shoreline, and almost all life has been destroyed. Over vast periods of time, a new race of sentient life forms has emerged; immortal gems that take the form of people. Phosphophyllite (Phos) is weak (with one of the lowest hardnesses) and considered useless by its peers.
The multiple suspensions the manga has experienced since December 2020 had led fans to speculate about a possible cancellation. Finally, it's worth mentioning that the chances of a second season of the anime are unlikely.
