Anyone who's watched live-action anime and manga knows that American attempts at such adaptations have been unsuccessful. However, Iñaki Godoy , the actor who plays Luffy , says he believes in the potential of a live-action One Piece because everyone involved in the project is passionate about Eiichiro Oda . So, if he's right, perhaps this series won't fall prey to the live-action anime curse.
Iñaki Godoy is confident that One Piece will not fall into the “curse” of live-action anime.

In an interview with GamesRadar+ , Iñaki Godoy was asked how he could present his series to the public, knowing the poor reputation of live-action anime adaptations. The actor emphasized that the Netflix wants to honor One Piece's reputation for fans, especially Eiichiro Oda.
“Well, the show is made by people who love One Piece. We love the manga, we love the anime, we think they're great. And the only thing we want to do is honor that and attract more people to it. We want to do nothing more than honor Mr. Oda's work and make more people enjoy it, because it's such a powerful story. And the whole world should know that.”
I mean, a lot of people already know about One Piece. But I want your grandfather to know what One Piece is. I want your grandmother—I want everyone to know what One Piece is. And for those who are already fans, to be able to relive those iconic moments. And you know, there's something really special about seeing your favorite characters as real people, too. There's a special kind of magic in that.
Synopsis:
