However, Iñaki Godoy , the actor of Luffy , says that he believes in the potential of live-action One Piece because everyone involved in the project is passionate about Eiichiro Oda . In an interview with GamesRadar+ , Iñaki Godoy is asked how he can present his series to the public, knowing the bad reputation of live-action anime adaptations. So the actor emphasizes that the Netflix wants to honor the name of One Piece for the fans and especially Eiichiro Oda.
“Well, the show is made by people who love One Piece. We love the manga, we love the anime, we think they're great. And the only thing we want to do is honor that and get more people into it. We want to do nothing more than honor Mr. Oda's work and make more people like it too, because it's such a powerful story. And the whole world should know this.
I mean, a lot of people already know about One Piece. But I want your grandfather to know what One Piece is. I want your grandmother – I want everyone to know what One Piece is. And, for those who are already fans, being able to relive those iconic moments. And you know, there's something really special about seeing your favorite characters as real people too. There’s a special kind of magic to it.”
Synopsis:
The story revolves around Monkey D. Luffy, a young man who gained a body made of rubber after eating the magical fruit Gomu Gomu no Mi (the Rubber Fruit). He was inspired by his childhood idol, the powerful pirate Shanks the Red, to become a pirate and sail on a journey across the sea to find the mythical treasure, the One Piece, and proclaim himself the Pirate King.
