The classic character Indiana Jones returns to the world of games in “Indiana Jones and the Great Circle”, a game that promises to revive the spirit of adventure with a lighter and more careful approach. Developed by MachineGames, known for intense titles such as Wolfenstein, the new game surprises by choosing a more familiar and less violent tone. The decision aims to make the game accessible to a variety of audiences, respecting Indy's history and preserving the character's ties with animals.
Scheduled for release on December 6th on Xbox Series and PC, and a version for PS5 in 2025, the game brings innovations that have already aroused the curiosity of fans. Thus, the change in tone, in line with Indiana Jones' intellectual property (IP) under Disney's management, excludes explicit violence with animal enemies, a decision that highlights the concern with the franchise's young and family audience.
Indiana Jones returns with a focus on stealth
“Indiana Jones and the Great Circle” brings different gameplay, centered on stealth and exploration, leaving direct combat in the background. According to Jens Andersson, creative director of the project, this approach reflects the profile of the protagonist, who is an archaeologist and professor, but who knows how to defend himself when necessary. Players will need to use espionage tactics and camouflage skills, emphasizing a more immersive experience focused on intelligence and subtlety, elements less common in action games.
The choice for a stealthy approach can also be seen as an attempt to differentiate the game from other MachineGames titles, which tend towards intense confrontation. However, now, Indiana Jones will be on a journey that values exploration more and less violence, creating an experience true to the character.

No violence against dogs
A curious and much commented aspect is the presence of dogs as enemies, but without any violence involved. Jens Andersson explained that the game avoids explicit scenes and seeks non-violent solutions to deal with dogs, which can be “scared away” without injury. This choice nods to fans and reflects Indiana Jones' affection for animals. As Andersson remembers, the character received the nickname “Indiana” in honor of his childhood dog. This fact is revealed in the film Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade.
This more careful and respectful line with animals is part of the family tone promoted by Disney. “Indiana Jones and the Great Circle” avoids unnecessary violence, reinforcing the character’s friendly image.
Authentic experience: new storyline and gameplay
With this change in style, the game seeks to create a unique story that still captures the essence of Indiana Jones. Andersson and Craig Derrick, from Lucasfilm Games, highlighted that the objective is to provide an independent experience, without necessarily following the canonical line of the films. The project focuses on a closed, movie-style narrative, offering a journey that both old fans and new players can enjoy, although plot details are still under wraps.
The game will be available on different platforms, with an initial launch on Xbox Series and PC. For PlayStation 5 players, the debut will only take place between March and June 2025, which maintains expectations for the following year.
