The original work, titled Tenmaku no Jādūgar (A Witch's Life in Mongol), is a manga written and illustrated by Tomato Soup and is being produced by Science SARU and TV Asahievent Anime Expo.

About Jaadugar: A Witch in Mongolia manga

The publisher Akita Shoten launched the manga in 2021 through the website Souffle; the work already has five published volumes. The series has also been serialized in the magazine Mystery Bonita since March 2025.

This winter (June to August) the manga will go on hiatusdue to the author's maternity leave, with a planned return sometime in 2025.

The story takes place in the 13th centuryEmpire Mongol, and follows Fatima, a Persian woman with advanced knowledge of medicine and science. Upon arriving at the Mongol palace, she befriends Töregene, the sixth wife of the Great Khan Ögedei, and the two become central figures in a political plot that could change the fate of the empire.

Recognition and nominations

A ranking Kono Manga ga Sugoi! in 2023 and came in 11th place in 2024. Furthermore, it was nominated for the Manga Taisho Awards in 2023 and 2024 and is competing for the Best New Manga at the American Manga Awards, the results of which will be announced on August 21, 2025.
