Naoya Matsumoto 's manga Kaiju No. 8 surpassed 4 million copies in circulation with the release of its fourth volume this Friday. The series was the fastest to reach this milestone in Shonen Jump+ (as opposed to Shueisha's print manga).
The four million figure refers to copies in circulation that are either printed or sold, not those that are not printed and sold. This number is not a sales statistic.
Shueisha has released a promotional video to celebrate the fourth volume of the manga; check it out below:
Kaiju No. 8 is filling a largely unexplored niche in the Japanese manga market, bringing a bit of the narrative and visual style of the famous Webtoons, but with a standard classic manga structure, thus creating a blend between the two styles and delivering a different experience to readers, which we can see is attracting a lot of attention. In fact, the manga Kaiju No. 8 ranked first in the seventh edition of “Next Manga” (Tsugi ni Kuru Manga Taishō) in the web manga category.
Matsumoto launched the manga in July 2020 in Shueisha's Shonen Jump+. The chapters are available on the MANGA Plus under the title Monster #8 in English. However, the manga is not yet available in Brazil.
Synopsis
A man working a job far removed from his childhood dreams finds himself in an unexpected situation…! Transforming into a monster, he aims once again to fulfill his lifelong dream…!
Finally, in addition to winning first place in the “Next Manga” award, Kaiju No. 8 gained immense popularity, becoming the fastest Shonen Jump+ manga to surpass three million copies in circulation in June 2021.
