Kimetsu no Yaiba 3 - Anime receives criticism for the quality of the 3DCG

The recent episode of the 3rd season of Kimetsu no Yaiba ( Demon Slayer ) that premiered this Sunday (23) suffered several criticisms from fans. That said, the reason was the quality in one of the scenes, fans claim excessive 3DCG on the character Gyokko . Remember, the scene in question contains spoilers for those who have not seen the episode.

One of the Upper Moons from Muzan 's releases fish-like creatures to terrorize the blacksmith village and kill its inhabitants . However, these demons only die when the vessels that hold them are destroyed, and although their strength easily surpasses that of the demon slayers, they are not a threat to the current Pillars, Mitsuri Kanroji and  Muichiro  Tokito .

Therefore, Ufotable studio opted for a 3DCG animation that immediately caused a stir on social media . As always, the animation work is impeccable, but the drawing and plotting style began to be criticized. Apparently, "the creature stands out too much on the screen" compared to Kotetsu, which is animated in 2D.

Check out the comments:

  • It's poor 3D, but it only lasts a few seconds, so it's not a problem.
  • People who criticize this are definitely looking for trouble.
  • Why did you decide to use CGI? It's just a fish!
  • To be honest, it's good CGI, definitely of a higher quality than what MAPPA does. Overall, it's standard CGI, but the design is great.
  • Well, I think they've improved on the CGI they used in previous seasons, but it's still mediocre. I don't know why it surprises you, CGI isn't Ufotable's strong suit
  • What the heck, this isn't Kimetsu no Yaiba!
  • The beginning of Kimetsu no Yaiba's decline. This is already one of the most boring arcs, and you put 3D in it?
  • I've seen worse, but this one looks lazy, especially when it comes to Ufotable
  • It was a mistake to put 3D where everything else is 2D. The correct approach would have been to show the fish alone in the scene

Synopsis:

Tanjiro awakens from a coma after defeating Upper Moon 6 in the Entertainment District and needs to go to the village to forge a new sword, since his old weapon was damaged. However, on the way, he encounters new demons who, following orders from Muzan, the main villain of the story, intend to eliminate all demon slayers.

Thus, the first season of Kimetsu no Yaiba premiered in April 2019 , becoming a successful phenomenon with the movie. Finally, the second season premiered on December 5, 2021 in Japan. Furthermore, the third season premiered on Crunchyroll after the release of the movie To the Swordsmith Village - World Tour on February 2 in Japan.

What did you think of the fish scene and its use of CGI?
