Record after record. The film Kimetsu no Yaiba ( Demon Slayer : the Movie: Mugen Train) by author Koyoharu Gotouge has become the highest-grossing film in Japanese history. According to the record, the film surpassed the classic "Spirited Away" (2001), by Studio Ghibli .

Based on the manga of the same name, "Demon Slayer" has grossed 32.5 billion yen ($380 million) at the box office since its October release in Japan, attracting well over 24 million viewers. Hayao Miyazaki's "Spirited Away" grossed 31.7 billion yen ($380 million) in Japanese theaters.
