Kimi No Na Wa (Your Name), anime by director Makoto Shinkai, is getting a live-action adaptation, but the project has just gained a top director: Marc Webb, who directed The Amazing Spider-Man and 500 Days of Summer.
It was recently confirmed that the remake will have a Western point of view.
The live-action version will be produced by JJ Abrams, in partnership with Paramount Pictures.
Grossing US$355.2 million worldwide, Your Name surpassed Spirited Away, becoming the highest-grossing anime in the world. Furthermore, the production became the highest-grossing Japanese film of all time.
Kimi No Na Wa follows Mitsuha Miyamizu, a young woman living in rural Japan who wants to leave her small town behind to try her luck in Tokyo. Meanwhile, Taki Tachibana (Ryûnosuke Kamiki), a young man working at an Italian restaurant in Tokyo, wants to quit his job and pursue a career as an architect. The two don't know each other, but they are directly and mysteriously connected by the images in their dreams.
