The official website for the Kyoukai no Kanata (Beyond the Boundary) series has released the first trailer for the highly anticipated film based on the series. The film is scheduled for release in spring 2015.
The story follows Akihito Kanbara, a second-year high school student. Although his body appears human, he is half "youmu," and immortal for that very reason. One day, Akihito meets the freshman Kuriyama Mirai when she appears to be about to jump off the school roof. Mirai keeps to herself because of her ability to manipulate blood, something unique even among the so-called Ikaishi, people tasked with defeating youmu. After Akihito saves Mirai, disturbing events begin to unfold.
The first season of the anime premiered in Japan last October, and currently the paid channel Crunchyroll is streaming the anime in several countries, since it aired in Japan. Sentai Filmworks also announced in October that it had licensed the anime for North America. Kyoukai no Kanata, based on the light novel by Nagomu Torii, received an honorable mention in the novel category of the Kyoto Animation Award program in 2011.
