The official website for the Kyoukai no Kanata (Beyond the Boundary) series has released the first trailer for the highly anticipated film based on the series. The film is scheduled for release in spring 2015.
The story follows Akihito Kanbara, a second-year high school boy. Although his body appears human, he is half "youmu," and is immortal for that very reason. One day, Akihito meets freshman Kuriyama Mirai when she appears to be about to jump off the school roof. Mirai keeps herself isolated because of her ability to manipulate blood, something unique even among the so-called Ikaishi, people tasked with defeating the youmu. After Akihito saves Mirai, disturbing events begin to unfold.
The anime's first season premiered in Japan in October of last year, and the Crunchyroll pay-TV channel is currently streaming the anime in several countries, following its Japanese premiere. Sentai Filmworks also announced in October that it had licensed the anime for North America. Based on the light novel by Nagomu Torii, "Kyoukai no Kanata" received an honorable mention in the romance category at the 2011 Kyoto Animation Awards.
