Lazarus, the new anime from Mappa studio and Shinichiro Watanabe, creator of Cowboy Bebop, arrived with a different plot and a reminder that the year has not ended for the public Otaku. With a Brazilian protagonist, sarcastic, master in Parkour and who exudes charisma, the work promises to surprise and start the spring season with the right foot.
In the year 2052, a drug named Hapuna, who everyone believed to be a miraculous painkiller, was declared by Dr. who created her, as a deadly trap. All those who consumed it have only 30 days of life. With this, Hirsch, commander of the Lazarus team, proposes that Axel Gilberto, protagonist of the anime, to join the team to find Dr. Skinner, who is responsible for creating hapuna.
The Lazarus Group begins to look for Dr. Skinner
In episode 2 , released on April 13, Axel, who fled the prison and showed his escape skills, joins the Lazarus team and begins his mission to find Dr. Skinner, a scientist who was considered a genius and won the Nobel Prize three times. In this way, the anime holds a mystery: Why did Skinner, a man who donated his cash awards, worked hard to solve climate crises, environmental problems and inequality, create a deadly painkiller?
Elaina, the group's hacker, discovers that Skinner bought a nuclear shelter. That way Gilberto and Cristina go to the shelter and find a man. After that, other people looking for the scientist also arrive at the scene. The meeting between the groups generates a conflict and another demonstration of the protagonist's skills. In the end, after a DNA test, they discover that man is actually not Dr. Skinner.
Also, even with only two episodes, there is already highlighting the fight scenes. Which is not a surprise, as Chad Stahelski, director of the John Wick franchise, is contributing to action design. At the end of the second episode, after a unsuccessful search for Dr. Skinner, Elaina finally seems to have found a track. The scientist's face has been identified, the problem is that he is in many places at the same time.
The anime has the potential to be one of the best of the season
Lazarus opted for a simple but well-made animation, especially the action scenes, which present dynamism and occur fluidly. In addition, the plot has great potential, where the fine line between good and evil can be explored from Dr. Skinner's perspective.
What's more, the characters, especially the protagonist, have charisma. It is still at the beginning of the plot, but it would be interesting if, at some point, the anime explore the past of the other members of the group.
Lazarus episodes are available on the Max streaming platform, with Portuguese voice acting. Keep following animeNews to not miss any anime, manga and everything that involves the otaku universe!
