In episode 10 of Lazarus , released on June 8, the population begins to feel the effects of Hapuna, filling hospitals around the world. Furthermore, the team discovers that Skinner underwent a procedure to place an artificial heart. Hirsch and Abel find clues that Axel may be immune to the painkiller.
At the beginning of the episode, it's revealed that patient zero is six days away from dying from Hapuna. People are already showing the first symptoms of the painkiller, and hospitals are overwhelmed. Furthermore, the Lazarus team analyzes the pill Chris found in Dr. Skinner's house, as they hope to find a cure. However, tests reveal it's a type of antiplatelet medication, primarily used for artificial heart patients.
With that, Elaina searches medical records to try to find the location where Skinner may have performed the surgery. However, there's no evidence that the scientist performed such a procedure, and Hirsch suspects he went to a hospital that serves only the elite with complete discretion.
Leland returns home and reunites with his sister
So, Leland enlists the help of Axel and Doug to accompany him to his home, where the Astor family lives. There, he reunites with his sister Isabella, with whom he has a strained relationship. She wants him to assume his role as head of the family and accept his responsibilities.
Leland wants information about the hospital that treats his family. However, Isabella says she'll only provide the contact information if he spends a weekend with her before they all die. The boy says he wants the information to find Skinner and prevent the deaths of the people.
At the hospital, Leland meets his family doctor, who admits that Skinner underwent artificial heart transplant surgery there. After his discharge, Skinner became undetectable, meaning the hospital doesn't know his whereabouts. However, the doctor provides the scientist's heartbeat transmission system software, which may contain useful information for the search.
Elaina analyzes the transmission system provided by the doctor and discovers that the heart monitor is still active. This way, they can use the device to determine where it's being monitored.
The incident at Schiphol Airport
Abel obtains a recording of the Schiphol Airport incident, where a conflict allegedly involved the use of biochemical weapons took place. However, the recording reveals that Dr. Skinner was present at the scene, and Abel suspects the scientist's objective was to smuggle the Hapuna prototype. Hirsch discovers that Skinner was detained by INSCOM, whose mission was to apprehend a terrorist.
Thus, the anime reveals that reports that the incident was a terrorist attack using biochemical weapons were false. The gas that leaked at the airport was actually the prototype Hapuna found in Skinner's suitcase, which proved to be a substance lethal enough to kill people on contact alone. Abel adds that, six months later, Hapuna reappeared at Eyman Prison in Arizona, where Axel was being held.
Eyman prison was forcing inmates to take new medications for clinical trials. Axel qualified for the trial. However, no results were recorded. Abel explains that he lost contact with Eyman's prison doctor, the only witness who could provide information about Axel's use of the medication.
The Lazarus team finds a solid lead to follow
While analyzing the transmission system provided by the doctor, Elaina discovers that someone is monitoring Skinner in Islamabad, Pakistan, where the Popcorn Wizard is located. With that, Elaina and Doug decide to track down the hacker to find Skinner's location.
Furthermore, Hirsch reveals to Axel that the drug he was forced to take in prison was a prototype of Hapuna. Based on the testing date, the other test subjects in the prison are likely already dead. However, Axel is still alive, and this could be crucial information for developing a cure for the painkiller. Thus, he is tasked with finding and protecting the doctor responsible for the tests.
Just as Axel is ready to carry out his mission, Soryu, the man they call a ghost, stops the protagonist. Episode 10 of Lazarus doesn't feature any action scenes, but with Axel and Soryu's encounter, the anime is likely to feature one of its best fight scenes in the next chapter. The conflict between the two is sure to be filled with tension and extraordinary moves. Furthermore, there are now only six days until the first Hapuna death. This is likely the group's last chance to find Dr. Skinner.
Episode 11 will be released next Sunday, June 15th, on the MAX streaming platform, with subtitles available in Portuguese.
