Episode Analysis

In episode 10 of Lazarus , released on June 8th, the population begins to feel the effects of Hapuna, overwhelming hospitals worldwide. Additionally, the team discovers that Skinner underwent a medical procedure to implant an artificial heart. Hirsch and Abel find clues suggesting that Axel may be immune to the painkiller.

At the beginning of the episode, it is revealed that patient zero is six days away from dying from Hapuna. People are already showing the first symptoms of the painkiller, and hospitals are overcrowded. Furthermore, the Lazarus team analyzes the pill Chris found in Dr. Skinner's house, as they hope to find a cure. However, tests reveal it to be a type of antiplatelet drug, primarily used for patients with artificial hearts.

With this, Elaina searches medical records to try and find the location where Skinner might have had the surgery. However, there is no evidence that the scientist performed such a procedure, and Hirsch suspects that he went to a hospital that caters only to the elite with complete discretion.

Leland returns home and is reunited with his sister

Therefore, Leland asks Axel and Doug for help to go with him to his house, where the Astor family lives. There he reunites with his sister Isabella, with whom he has a troubled relationship. She wants the boy to assume his role as head of the family and accept his responsibilities.

Leland wants information about the hospital that treats his family. However, Isabella says she will only provide the contact information if he spends a weekend with her before everyone dies. The boy says he wants the information to find Skinner and prevent the deaths.

At the hospital, Leland meets his family doctor, who admits that Skinner underwent surgery for an artificial heart transplant at the hospital. After his discharge, Skinner became untraceable. Thus, the hospital does not know his location. However, the doctor hands over the software from the scientist's heart rate transmission system, which may contain some useful information for the search.

Elaina analyzes the transmission system handed over by the doctor and discovers that the heart monitor is still active. Therefore, they can use the device to find out where he is being monitored from.

The incident at Schiphol Airport

Abel obtains a recording of the Schiphol Airport incident, where a conflict allegedly involved the use of biochemical weapons. However, the recording reveals that Dr. Skinner was present at the scene, and Abel suspects that the scientist's objective was to smuggle the Hapuna prototype. Hirsch discovers that Skinner was detained by INSCOM, whose mission was to apprehend a terrorist.

Thus, the anime reveals that reports claiming the incident was a terrorist attack with biochemical weapons were false. The gas that leaked at the airport was actually the prototype of Hapuna that was in Skinner's suitcase, proving to be a lethal enough substance to kill people through contact alone. Abel adds that, six months later, Hapuna reappeared at Eyman prison in Arizona, where Axel was being held.

Eyman prison was forcing prisoners to ingest new medications for clinical trials. Axel qualified to participate in the trial. However, no results were recorded. Abel explains that he lost contact with the Eyman prison doctor, the only witness who could provide information about the use of the medication on Axel.

Team Lazarus finds a solid lead to follow

While analyzing the transmission system delivered by the doctor, Elaina discovers that someone is monitoring Skinner in Islamabad, Pakistan, where the Popcorn Wizard is located. With this information, Elaina and Doug decide to track down the hacker to find Skinner's location.

Furthermore, Hirsch reveals to Axel that the drug he was forced to take in prison was a prototype of Hapuna. Based on the test dates, it's likely the other test subjects in the prison are already dead. However, Axel is still alive, and this could be crucial information for creating a cure for the painkiller. Therefore, he is given the mission to find the doctor responsible for the tests and protect him.

When Axel is ready to fulfill his mission, Soryu, the man they call the ghost, stops the protagonist. Episode 10 of Lazarus doesn't feature action scenes; however, with the encounter between Axel and Soryu, it's likely that the next chapter will showcase one of the anime's best fight scenes. The conflict between the two promises to be full of tension and extraordinary moves. Furthermore, there are now only 6 days left until the first Hapuna death. This is likely the group's last chance to try and find Dr. Skinner.
