Riot Games confirmed this week the first updates for League of Legends Season 2, which launches globally on April 30. With Ionia as the central focus of the narrative and setting, the game will receive a complete map visual update, along with a new batch of skins for seven popular champions.

The Spirit Blossom line returns in full force, now including Lux, Ashe, Irelia, Bard, Ivern, Varus, and Zyra. Among the most eye-catching additions, Ashe and Irelia gain Legendary versions, while Lux receives a Prestige skin. The season also marks the arrival of a new champion to the MOBA roster: Yunara, whose debut date has not yet been set.
Floral skins and a themed map dominate the new phase
The choice of Ionia as the backdrop for League of Legends Season 2 sets the tone for the visual update. Summoner's Rift will be redesigned to reflect the region's mystical style, with vibrant colors and nature-inspired effects. While it won't incorporate elements from Noxus, as it did last season, the map will have a new feel and identity.
The Spirit Blossom skins follow this same aesthetic. Lux appears in a golden, ethereal version in the Prestige model, while Irelia and Ashe shine with unique animations and visual effects in the Legendary editions. Riot promises that these versions will feature "deep narrative details" tied to the game's new arc.
The new champion Yunara also fits into this theme. With her design still under wraps, she's expected to expand the Ionia universe with abilities linked to nature. A teaser has already been released, but no official release date has been announced.
Brawl mode debuts with faster, more intense matches
Among the season's most anticipated additions is the Brawl game mode. However, the idea is simple: an arena where two teams fight until the opponent's health bar is reduced from 250 to zero. No towers, no objectives. Just pure combat in matches lasting up to ten minutes.
Unlike ARAM, here the player can choose their favorite champion, without relying on luck or random selection. Furthermore, the idea is to create a more dynamic and direct environment, focused on the fun chaos of teamfights. Thus, the developer compared the mode to a "battle of vibes."
Brawl mode will be available at the start of the season, serving as a casual, fast-paced alternative to traditional matches. Riot is committed to keeping the game engaging in short, uncommitted sessions.
System changes promise more balance and practicality
In addition to new League of Legends skins and modes, Riot will be implementing changes to the gameplay system. The first is the ability to swap positions with other players during the champion select phase—a feature highly requested by the community.
To counter unplanned changes, supports will now automatically receive the World Atlas item, eliminating the chance for strategic swaps after the match begins. Meanwhile, Atakhan, the map's special creature, has gained a new form and now offers a 25% bonus effect to the player who successfully defeats him.
Another important change is the rewards system. Starting with the new season, only the winning team will receive bonus gold, which should reduce unbalanced comebacks and ensure more merit for those who dominate the game from the start.
Spirit Blossom leads the visual and narrative overhaul of League of Legends
With the arrival of Season 2, League of Legends reinforces its tendency to unite narrative and gameplay in grand visual events. The return of the Spirit Blossom line serves as a connecting thread between the new visuals, the map redesign, and the introduction of Yunara.
Riot Games demonstrates its focus on keeping the MOBA relevant not only in terms of gameplay, but also as an aesthetic and narrative experience. The new phase officially begins on April 30th and promises to excite the community with new content, themed events, and, of course, plenty of breathtaking skins.
