Finally, we have the first box office figures released for the film Saint Seiya: Legend of Sanctuary, which had a good opening in Brazil. The film grossed a little over 3 million reais (equivalent to 1.4 million dollars), bringing 250,000 people to theaters on its opening weekend.
The number is significantly higher than the premiere in Japan. In comparison to other films in the series, the Abel movie in the 90s drew 500,000 people on its opening weekend (and that was during the series' golden age here), while Heaven Chapter: Overture in 2006 drew around 50,000 people on its opening weekend. The number is also much higher than the premiere of the Dragon Ball Z movie in Brazil in 2013.
Interestingly, the new film sold 2,000 tickets in pre-sales alone.
Overall, Knights came in second in box office revenue in Brazil, losing only to Hercules (which is already in its second week). It outperformed Lucy and the premiere of The Giver, securing the "title" of best opening of the weekend.
