There's always someone saying good or bad things about black cats, and if they're in anime, it's even worse. Especially since in the Middle Ages, it was believed that black cats were witches transformed into animals, which is why there's a superstition that crossing paths with a black cat is a sign of very bad luck.

Later, in Egypt, cats were associated with the goddess Bastet or Ailuros (the Greek word for cat), who was adorned entirely with gold and painted black. A solar deity and goddess of fertility, as well as protector of pregnant women, she had a cat's head and a basket where she placed her offspring.

The history of the black cat is an old one, as you can see. If you want to learn more about its connection to Friday the 13th, read about it on Mural Animal .

Finally, let's meet some black cats that appear in anime and show that bad luck has nothing to do with the color of their fur.

Check out the list of anime appearances:

1- Blair – Soul Eater

BlairCat - soul eaterOriginating from the manga  Bake Neko (Monster Cat), she sometimes appears as a witch and possesses great magical powers. Her attacks and defenses are Halloween-themed.

She's always looking for fun, likes to flirt with Soul and take her clothes off in front of people (cats don't usually wear clothes), and loves taking baths.

2 – Kuro – Ao no Exorcist

Kuro- ao no exorcistIt is also a Bake Neko, possessing two tails which makes it a Nekotama and grants it great powers. Kuro can grow very large and sometimes carries someone on its back.

He met Rin when he was furious, unable to believe that Shiro, who had adopted him after his home was abandoned and destroyed, had died. Rin managed to understand Kuro and calm him down; after that, Kuro became Rin's familiar.

Playful and full of energy, he is constantly seen around Rin, as he doesn't like being alone.

3- Pantherlily – Fairy Tail

Pantherlily - Fairy TailHe is an Exceed from Edolas, and on the other hand, he was the commander of the First Division of the Royal Army. He joined Fairy Tail after becoming Gajeel's partner.

He is serious and hates noisy people, he is tough and sensible, but he is afraid of thunder. Most of the time he looks like the other Exceeds, but he assumes his battle form , in which his body resembles that of a muscular man, and he likes to use weapons.

4- Luna – Sailor Moon

Luna the Cats – Sailor MoonOriginally Luna was a humanoid, but she adopted the Moon Kingdom as her home. She was found by Usagi (better known as Serena), who revealed that Serena is Sailor Moon and discovered the other Sailor Guardians.

Luna is very perceptive and quite responsible in her work, but she gets easily irritated by Usagi's daydreams, to the point of threatening to scratch her face.

5- Yoruichi – Bleach

7 cats Yoruichi – BleachShe is the former captain of the 2nd Division of the Gotei 13, as well as the former commander of Onmitsukidō. In short, the only Shinigami with the ability to transform into a cat.

When she's in cat form, she has a masculine voice; her true form caused a huge surprise to Ichigo, as she appeared without clothes. Even as a cat, she can still use her spiritual energy and run at great speed. Intelligent, witty, she has great knowledge about the Soul Society and enjoys drinking milk.

Spoiler alert. If you don't want to read this, skip to the next cat.

Recently in the manga, she exhibited cat-like behavior during a fight even without being transformed; she had mood swings, which Urahara described as "atmosphere.".

6 – Kaya – Gakkou no Kaidan

7 kaya cats - Gakkou no Kaidan

Satsuki's pet cat, similarly, ended up having a demon named Amanojaku sealed inside its body.

Initially, Amanojaku enjoys seeing the children in trouble, but as the series progresses, he develops a protective feeling towards them, especially Satsuki and Keiichirou.

7- Kuroneko – Trigun

7 cats Kuroneko TrigunThis black cat appears in every episode of the anime and randomly in the manga. It doesn't have much relevance to the story.

The author, Nightow, stated that it's simply something easy and calming to draw between action scenes.

Despite the popular belief that cats, black or not, want to rule the world and are evil, they are simply animals that love their owners or servants, They like to stay close to them and can even be affectionate. Have you seen any of these cats in your anime? Do you like cats? Don't forget to comment!
