Lupin III: Prequel film gets a trailer and reveals story details

Lupin III franchise will get a new feature film titled Lupin the IIIrd The Movie: Fujimi no Ketsuzoku (Immortal Bloodline) , which will hit Japanese theaters on June 27th .

Additionally, streaming platforms, including Amazon Prime Video , will release a prequel titled Lupin the IIIrd: Zenigata to Futari no Lupin ( Zenigata and the Two Lupins ) on June 20th . See the trailer below:

Original plot and protagonist

The main film, Fujimi no Ketsuzoku, will follow Lupin and his gang as they search for a hidden treasure on a mysterious island .

The prequel will focus on Inspector Zenigata , Lupin's traditional rival. The plot begins with a terrorist attack at an airport in the fictional "Soviet Union," where Lupin is the prime suspect. However, Zenigata soon finds himself embroiled in a conspiracy that suggests the existence of more than one Lupin .

Cast and technical team

The main film has had some details of its production and cast revealed. Telecom Animation Film is producing the work, and TOHO NEXT will handle distribution.

The film will see the return of Takeshi Koike ( Lupin III: The Woman Called Fujiko Mine ) as director, with a screenplay by Yūya Takahashi . The soundtrack will be composed by James Shimoji , and Katsuhito Ishii will serve as creative consultant.

The cast will include:

  • Kenyū Horiuchi as the “fake Lupin”;
  • Ainosuke Kataoka as Muomu, an immortal man;
  • Aoi Morikawa as Sarifa, an enigmatic girl who serves Muomu.

Theme music and trivia

The theme song for the main film has also been revealed. The rock band B'z is responsible for performing “The IIIRD Eye” .

This will be the franchise's first traditional 2D film 30 years , since Lupin III: Dead or Alive (1996). Although other projects have reached theaters in recent decades, such as Lupin the IIIrd: Jigen's Gravestone and Lupin III THE FIRST (in CGI), this marks the franchise's return to the classic format.
