Lycoris Recoil fans can rejoice: a new anime is coming, completely separate from the series of animated shorts that premiered in April. Director Shingo Adachi explained to Mantan Web that he began development on the main project shortly after the first season ended and continues to work on it with great care.
"You might think the shorts are the new project, but we're also working on a new animation. I just ask that you wait a little longer," Adachi said.
The confusion arose because the announcement of the new anime, made in 2023, coincided with the release of the short series. Now, with confirmation that they are separate productions, fans can expect even more new content from the Lycoris Recoil universe . Character designer Imigimuru also expressed a desire to participate in future projects in the franchise.
While awaiting the new anime, the series of animated shorts will premiere on April 16, 2025, on Aniplex YouTube channel, with English subtitles available thanks to Aniplex of America. In the released trailer, Chisato even shouts "Lycoris Recoil, the movie!" but is quickly corrected by Takina, who says, "It's a short film."
