Made in Abyss will have a new film trilogy, part 1 arriving in 2026

Made in Abyss team has confirmed that the previously announced sequel will be a series of theatrical films. The first film, titled Made in Abyss: The Golden City of the Scorching Sun – The Enigma Awakens (unofficial translation: Mezameru Shinpi / 目覚める神秘), will premiere in 2026.

The reveal came alongside a new teaser visual and the release of the manga's 14th volume. The visual shows two new characters, Tepaste and Cravagli , reunited at the Tumble Tavern.

Direct continuation of the 2022 anime

The film will be a direct sequel to the 2022 film, Made in Abyss: The Golden City of the Burning Sun , and is once again produced by Kinema Citrus . The technical team includes:

  • Director: Masayuki Kojima
  • Screenplay: Hideyuki Kurata
  • Character Design: Yuka Kuroda and Kazuchika Kise (Production IG)
  • Animation production: Kinema Citrus

Created by Akihito Tsukushi , the manga follows Riko, a girl who, along with the robot Reg, descends into the mysterious Abyss, a gigantic pit filled with relics and enigmatic creatures. The work is published on Takeshobo's Web Comic Gamma website and has already sold over 22 million copies.

Concert and special events

A special concert, Made in Abyss Film Concert: Deep Echoes of Resonance , will take place on February 8, 2026, at the Nakano ZERO Grand Hall in Tokyo. Composer Kevin Penkin will lead the live orchestra, featuring singers Ko Saito and KIHOW (MYTH & ROID). The main cast, Miyu Tomita (Riko), Mariya Ise (Reg), and Shiori Izawa (Nanachi), will also be in attendance.

Additionally, a Bondrewd-themed store and a special fragrance collaboration are in the works.
