Mafia: The Old Country in a Steam update . The company will release the new game in the franchise on August 8 for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S.
The title marks the first time the Mafia series has been set outside the United States. Set in early 20th-century Sicily, the game explores the birth of the Mafia, before its consolidation as an international criminal organization.
The publisher planned to reveal the release only in May
The information emerged after a temporary update to the game's page, which was only available for a short time. However, users managed to capture screenshots of the data, confirming the release date and the expected start date for pre-orders.
The official announcement would only happen on May 8th, during PAX East, an event that will feature a panel by 2K and developer Hangar 13. At the event, the studios should present new images of the game, details about the gameplay and the narrative focus of this edition.
Game returns to the roots of the criminal organization
Revealed during Gamescom 2024, Mafia: The Old Country will be a prequel to the previous titles. The story takes place decades before the events already depicted in the franchise, in a less glamorous but more realistic historical context.
The story unfolds in a Sicily marked by local conflicts and family traditions. To enhance authenticity, the game will feature voice acting in English and Sicilian, as well as text and subtitles in Italian, as announced by Hangar 13.
Location includes Brazilian fans
2K won't dub the game into Portuguese, but it will translate the entire interface, menus, and subtitles into Brazilian Portuguese. However, the company has guaranteed full language support, making it easier for Brazilian players to access the game's storyline and controls.
The new edition's proposal is to invest in a historical setting, with elements of authenticity that stand out from previous titles. Thus, the idea is to present an origin story, focusing on the formation of alliances and codes of honor that shaped the Mafia.
