Animation studio ufotable announced at an event in Japan that the Gakuen Utopia Manabi Straight! will soon be adapted into a new manga. The studio and Tartan Check debuted the first manga series in ASCII Media Works' Monthly and Comic Dengeki Daioh magazines in 2005.
The first manga, released in 2005, spawned a 12-episode series in 2007. The story takes place in the year 2035, where schools have suffered from a low birth rate, resulting in many closing. A completely outgoing girl named Amamiya Manami transfers to a new school where she easily becomes the student council president and begins to bring some vigor back into the students' lives.
