Synopsis
The story follows a girl who encounters a boy on the street with a peculiar instrument. This meeting between an aspiring idol singer and a shamisen player, a traditional Japanese three-stringed instrument, leads them both on a journey to discover their figurative and literal voices.
Ragawa launched the manga in Monthly Shonen Magazine in December 2009. Kodansha published the manga's 25th volume on May 15. Incidentally, Mashiro no Oto was nominated for the 23rd annual Tezuka Osamu Cultural Prize last year.
Furthermore, Ragawa also serialized the manga Baby & Me, which ran for 18 volumes between 1991 and 1997. Finally, the manga inspired an anime adaptation from 1996 to 1997 and a Korean live-action film in 2008.
