My Melody & Kuromi: Netflix announces series premiere date and trailer

Netflix revealed on Thursday, July 12, a video and two visuals for the new stop-motion animation , My Melody & Kuromi , Sanrio characters . The series premieres on July 24 , 2025.

The video also reveals that K-pop group LE SSERAFIM will perform the opening theme song, "Kawaii (Prod. Gen Hoshino) ." The series will have a total of 12 episodes , with each episode running about 13 minutes. Watch the full trailer below:

This year, 2025, marks the 50th anniversary of the character My Melody and the 20th anniversary of Kuromi. Two visuals were released to celebrate the anime's release. See both below.

The series is produced by WIT STUDIO (Spy x Family). Tomoki Misato (stop-motion television series Pui Pui Molcar) is directing the animation and Shūko Nemoto is writing the scripts.

Synopsis My Melody & Kuromi

My Melody opens a bakery in Mariland. After finding a heart in the forest, strange things begin to happen around her. Meanwhile, Kuromi's Japanese sweets shop across the street is always empty. Kuromi searches for the secret behind My Melody's cakes. My Melody and Kuromi work hard to prepare for a pastry-making competition judged by the world-famous pastry chef Pistachio. However, little does anyone know that this will lead to an incident that threatens the fate of Mariland.

Other Sanrio series

Entertainment company Sanrio, creator of the iconic Hello Kitty , continues to expand its animation catalog with new productions from the My Melody . The brand, which debuted the anime "Onegai My Melody" in 2005, has consistently developed the character's universe over the years.

The original “Onegai My Melody” series spawned several sequels, including:

  • “Onegai My Melody – Kuru Kuru Shuffle!” (2006);
  • “Onegai My Melody Sukkiri” (2007);
  • “Onegai My Melody Kirara” (2008).

The first film in the franchise, “Onegai My Melody Yū & Ai”, hit Japanese theaters in 2012, marking the character's debut in feature film format.

Recently, Sanrio has been investing in digital for the franchise. In February 2023, it released the short series "Kuromi's Pretty Journey," making the first three episodes available simultaneously on YouTube and TikTok . The series followed a weekly release schedule, totaling 21 episodes.

On October 31st, the sequel titled “Kuromi's Pretty Journey ~Hachamecha! Multiverse Dasshutsu!~” , with a simultaneous release in Japanese and English versions on YouTube.
