The 5th season of Natsume Yuujinchou (Natsume's Book of Friends) by author Yuki Midorikawa has been announced. The new series will be called Natsume Yuujinchou Go and will hit TVs in autumn this year.
The team from the other seasons returns with the exception of the animation studio. Takahiro Omori (Durarara!!) is the chief director at studio Shuka (Durarara!! ×2), directed by Kotomi Deai (The Rolling Girls).
The original story follows with Takashi Natsume cursed where he can see spirits called Youkais, a power inherited from his grandmother Reiko. After her death, Reiko bequeathed to her grandson a book containing the names of the spirits that Reiko had obtained through her fights against the spirits (Yōkais). The Book of Friends is a highly prized item in the spirit world, and spirits constantly haunt Takashi.
The fourth season debuted in 2012 with animation from the Brains Base studio.
