Netflix has listened to fans and is already preparing important changes for the second season of the anime Devil May Cry , and fans can expect something very different. As revealed by Adi Shankar , producer of the series and also known for his work on Castlevania , the new batch of episodes will be "essentially a new series".
Vergil takes center stage in Devil May Cry
Previously focused on Dante , the narrative will now give more prominence to Vergil , the protagonist's brother. As Shankar himself explained to Esquire , this change will allow for the exploration of new paths and the expansion of the Capcom franchise's universe. " The first season was just the gateway, but the second changes everything " he stated.
This overhaul isn't limited to the plot: the visual style and tone of the series will also undergo significant changes. Thus, the production will seek a new identity to distance itself from the standard of conventional anime.
New identity and high ambitions
Shankar states that Devil May Cry draws inspiration from Western classics like X-Men , Batman: The Animated Series , and Gargoyles , attempting to revive the spirit of Saturday night cartoons. However, he emphasizes that there is now creative freedom to take these ideas beyond what was possible on broadcast television. Nevertheless, the producer doesn't hide his ambition: " I want to surpass Arcane " he said, referring to the acclaimed Riot Games series on Netflix. "I want to show up with a water balloon in a tank war and win ," he joked.
